Chapter 509
Amara had suffered a heart attack after witnessing her son being taken away from her. It was intolerable for her health to hold up to the scene and with the due time, she wasn’t able to survive.
It was two days after the funeral of Amara had been held. Currently, grandfather Smith was sitting in his study. There was no one else present in the entire mansion, except him and his butler.
Lucas was still shown the road of the bars.
Sipping the wine inside his room, there was absolute darkness. Except for the few sunrays that came from outside of the window, he didn’t bother to switch on the lights in his mansion for the day.
It was all filled with the silence and silence that no one could buy, not with money.
At the same time, there was a knock on the cabin’s door. He shifted his eyes to claim that it was his butler, “Elder master, there is someone who would like to meet you.”
.....
“Send him inside.”
Without any doubt, Grandfather Smith knew who would like to come and see him at this time. It was his lowest key point ever in his lifetime.
The butler passed a nod and then, after a few minutes, the steps of the walking became louder. The door was opened by Jack, who saw the distraught condition of his grandfather.
His lips curved into a straight line, but he didn’t bother to speak up. Closing the door behind himself, Jack entered straight away to his grandfather’s desk.
He kept the files on the desk and took the seat opposite the old man.
“With the rate you’re drinking at this age, I think you also plan to go into heaven and assist your son and daughter-in-law.” Jack passed a sarcastic remark from what he witnessed right now.
His eyes had taken a line to see how badly Grandfather Smith finished the wine bottles.
On the other hand, grandfather Smith only smirked and said these words, “Who would be more than happy for me to go up there?”
“You better know. You have lived long to see many things. And your sins are too old and dirty for me to define.” Jack said and grandfather Smith didn’t deny it.
Grandfather Smith poured another glass of wine and kept it in front of Jack. “Have it. After all, I’m a lonely soul now. You can accompany me in this for once”
“I don’t like drinking with the killers of my father, Mr. Smith.” Jack finally told him.
He had at least expected any reaction from the old man.
However, to his dismay, there was no trace of discomfort in those eyes. Neither was there any guilt, hurt, or anger? Mr. Smith maintained the same level of composure that was never expected from him to the point.
Rather than the bad-mouthing, Elder master, Smith took his glass to take a sip and said, “I already know that you know. I know that your mother knows. Your father... was as stubborn as you, wasn’t he?”
Jack took a deep breath, so as to not break eye contact, “Seems like I got my nature from him. It runs in the veins.”
“Indeed.”
Old man Smith took another sip, before muttering, “It was his greed and temptation to believe that no one can change the position of his lover and child. He never took into account Lucas ever. That was something..I disliked!”
“If your father had accepted what I had written for him, he would have been alive. Things would have been different.” The old man’s words made Jack’s eyes turn hollow.
“You still believe that it wasn’t your fault?” Jack can’t help but ask, sincerely with all might guts, “I never said that I was never involved with that bombing incident. I lost my son, but it is on my own account. After all, I had gotten Lucas as his substitute.”
“....And you didn’t make the same mistake with him. You never sent Lucas out for education since you were very afraid that history could repeat itself. You kept Lucas so close to you that...you actually rotten him to hell!” Jack didn’t miss the beat.
Lucas was the rotten apple. The old man not only declared him his heir but raised him as his son. He simply used his son to give him a grandchild, whom he could raise as per his wish and run as his puppet.
In return, grandfather Smith laughed at this statement.
He didn’t revolt back but at that point, Jack could see some hint of regret. “I did what I should not. In Lucas’s upbringing, I made him no less than any monster. I would have never thought his anger, and attitude would cost me my everything..especially at this stage?”
“Everyone pays for their sins in the life they are born.” grandfather Smith agreed with Jack’s statement.
He took another sip of his wine, but didn’t tear away his eyes from his illegitimate grandchild, “But I did commit another mistake, which was too late for me to realize ”
To this, Jack raised his brows. His smirk had vanished and been replaced with another mild curiosity, “Apprise me.”
“I called you back.”
Hearing this, Jack simply laughed. And the laugh was simply not the best suited ever.
There was the trace of amusement within himself, which he didn’t a label but felt the emptiness again, “You regret calling me back? You should, old man. Because I was never here with good intentions.”
“You had come to seek your revenge for the humiliation caused to your mother and your father... you were always working in that direction. Weren’t you?” Elder master Smith asked with a clear tone.
Without fabricating the things, Jack passed him a positive response. At this point, he has nothing to hide from him.
It was indeed his mission throughout. And calling him back was the cherry on top.
Elder master Smith didn’t put forward any solid reaction.
He had made his face sour, which indicated how unhappy he was. But this made Jack finally decide to play the game, “And even today, I haven’t come to simply pay a visit.”
“Smart men like you will never do so. Tell me, what you have for me now.”
“An offer, which can reduce your loneliness and benefit me for a lifetime. But it requires sacrifice. Are you willing to do that?”
