Chapter 26 - Sick
Chapter 26 - Sick
’Where am I?’ was what first came to Xiu Mei’s mind.
She had just regained her consciousness but she clearly felt even more tired than ever instead of being energized. Her eyelids felt heavy and it was difficult enough to open her eyes for quite a long time. Her whole body felt heavy and moving just a little bit brought pain to her body.
Her breathing was slightly ragged and she felt a little bit stuffy. Her throat was a bit itchy too.
After assessing herself, Xiu Mei realized that she was sick. And it wasn’t just a simple fever, it was a really bad case of fever.
But she had other things to worry about aside from being sick. When she opened her eyes, what welcomed her was an unfamiliar grey-ish ceiling. Forcing herself to shift her head, she realized she was in a dimly lit room with simple decorations. She didn’t bother examining whatever objects were around her when her eyes trailed to the long tube stuck on the back of her hand.
She instantly recognized that it was an IV bag, making her more confused.
Xiu Mei knew she was in an unfamiliar room, definitely in a stranger’s place. And this stranger was kind enough to bring her home and even went to great lengths in putting her in a drip to treat her rising fever.
She tried to remember her last memory before she had completely blacked out.
All she knew was that she had been crying for almost half an hour at Ying Yue’s grave when she suddenly felt weak. Her vision was getting blurry and dizzy and when she tried to stand up to leave, her knees felt jelly and instantly gave away.
She felt too weak to even support and prevent herself from falling, hence, she fell back onto her knees on the ground. The ground was damp and the windbreaker wasn’t working well either especially that the rain was continuously falling which looked like won’t be stopping anytime soon.
Xiu Mei forced herself to clear her mind, trying to find some energy and effort to drag herself back to the car or she would really have to suffer the consequences of being sick. But her efforts were to no avail when her vision finally blacked out a few seconds later.
Finally remembering how she had lost her consciousness, she grew frightful.
She had visited Ying Yue’s grave very late that night, lost consciousness and found herself in someone’s place. She felt fearful thinking what kind of person(other than her) would visit a grave that very late at night with the rain pouring so hard?
Despite being sick, her mind had already mapped a lot of ways on how she would escape here but her thoughts were put into an abrupt stop when she saw the door opening.
Finally, the stranger was unmasked. Xiu Mei breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her boss’ familiar face.
Quickly, she remembered. Wasn’t he in London? Why is he here? or did she somehow teleport to London?
Her eyes followed Lu Chen who was now approaching her. His attire a bit unkempt than usual, and he was wearing black-rimmed glasses that looked quite a bit s.e.xy for him. In his hands was a tray where laid a glass of water, a bowl and an insulated flask.
"How are you feeling?" Lu Chen asked, as he sat on the chair he placed just beside the bed hours ago. He laid the tray on the bedside table as his hands naturally stretched out to touch Xiu Mei’s forehead.
Xiu Mei grew stiff with the sudden contact but she didn’t shoo his hand away. She let him touch her forehead with his slightly cold hands, which weirdly made her feel comfortable under his touch.
"Looks like your temperature won’t go lower anytime soon." Removing his hands from her forehead, he brushed away the stray hair that was framing her face. The action was done so naturally like he head been doing it for years.
Xiu Mei’s cheek flushed in embarrassment. Her felt her heart made a leap and she wanted to smack herself. Damn it, she was treading to some dangerous waters.
"Eat some lunch first before taking your medicine."
Just like some experienced nurse, Lu Chen supported Xiu Mei’s body by looping his arm behind her back with his other hand supporting her head. He raised her body and fixed the pillows behind her for support as he made her lean onto it. His action was done patiently and too gentle that Xiu Mei was completely caught off guard with his actions.
She had never expected that she would be able to see Lu Chen become so gentle to anyone, especially to herself. That aloof and cold president that she had worked with was vastly different from the one in front of her right now.
She was too speechless to speak while Lu Chen pulled out the bed tray under the bed and placed it in front of her. His hands never stopped pouring the congee from the flask to the bowl.
"Eat." Lu Chen placed the spoon in her hand, but Xiu Mei was too dumbstruck with his actions.
Not understanding why Xiu Mei wasn’t moving, his thoughts quickly made a decision that maybe she had thought he would feed her.
And he wasn’t exactly having any issue with that.
He grabbed the spoon back from Xiu Mei’s grasp and held the bowl with his other hand. He scooped a spoonful of congee before lightly blowing on it to cool down the temperature for a little bit before bringing it closer to her face.
"Open your mouth."
Before Xiu Mei woke up from being too dumbstruck with his actions, her mouth reflexively followed what he said. She opened her mouth when she tasted the warm and tasty congee cover her entire tastebuds.
She blinked. Her eyes widened as her hands quickly flew to her mouth to cover it in shock.
Her mind was in a complete mess. Holy shit, did she just really had her boss feed her congee personally?!
