Chapter 44: Uncle
Chapter 44: Uncle
It was the era of bicycles, which was the most common form of transportation. One would be considered well-off if they could even afford a motorcycle at the time. Santanas were only meant for the rich, so what about the people who owned imported luxury cars, such as the Cadillac? Those were only meant for the richest of the rich.
The Cadillac was more than five and a half meters long and had a large engine capacity. Every step on the pedal would cost two yuan of gas. Obviously, only the wealthy and powerful could afford it.
The car withstood the test of time and continued to be an outstanding example of luxury even after 20 years. When the rich got married, they would still use a Cadillac as their bridal car. It was a sign of extravagance.
Unfortunately, Ye Qiao could not remember any tycoons from N City that could be related to Lu Beixiao. Soon, a tall man emerged from the car through the backseat door, dressed in a white suit and a fancy shirt. He must have applied a great dab of volumizing mousse in order to create that slick back hair, making it look polished and glossy. With a pair of shades, he looked just like a celebrity.
Smilingly, the celebrity-looking figure strode confidently towards Ye Qiao. He had a mobile phone in his hand, which was as chunky as a brick.
At the same time, Ye Qiao went forward to greet him.
“Hello, I’m Ye Qiao. You must be a friend of Beixiao, right?” She approached him in a friendly manner.
With a smile, the man shook his head in disapproval. “I’m not his friend.”
Was she mistaken? The man did seem familiar, like someone she had probably met in the old days.
“Well, may I know who you are?”
He took off his shades to reveal his face that was as pretty as a girl. “I’m his youngest uncle!”
Damn! She had not expected it. The man turned out to be his uncle!
She finally remembered that Lu Beixiao’s mother, Du Ying, was born and raised in N City. The very famous Du Heavy Industries Co. was his mother’s family business. It was a corporation that was widely known throughout the whole nation.
It came as a surprise for Ye Qiao to see how bizarrely androgynous his uncle looked when he was young. Although he was one of the older members of the family, he was only a few years older than Lu Beixiao and the youngest among his siblings.
“Hello, uncle,” she greeted with a sweet smile.
She then introduced Xiao Dong and Zhou Peng to him.
...
The air conditioner in the car was on full blast, and the leather car seats in the car were extremely comfortable. They had the radio on, playing the latest hits of the era.
“Are you in a relationship with Xiao Xiao?” He asked with an amused expression. His skin was supple and delicate, which was an obvious result of his investment in skincare.
Du Jun already knew the status of their relationship but deliberately asked. In fact, Lu Beixiao gave him a call just yesterday to tell him about Ye Qiao. “Uncle, your future niece-in-law will be coming to N City in two days. Please welcome her on my behalf with the warmest reception. Her name is Ye Qiao.”
Lu Beixiao had never been more polite to him. Truth be told, the man had never truly addressed him as his uncle. Therefore, Du Jun was extremely excited when he finally addressed him that way.
Lu Beixiao was willing to compromise out of consideration for a girl. Therefore, she must be especially significant to him. In fact, he had never dated anyone before. The girl was his very first.
Ye Qiao answered in a timid manner, “Uncle, what do you think?”
Du Jun was actually impressed by her calm countenance.
She gladly addressed him as her uncle without appearing nervous at all. And just like that, she had won Du Jun’s approval.
“Uncle, if Xiao says that we’re in a relationship, then we are,” Ye Qiao pleasantly added, before taking a sip of water. Xiao Dong and Zhou Peng were seated at the back, so they could not hear their conversation.
Du Jun invited them to lunch in a family-owned hotel before showing them to their respective guestrooms.
...
As soon as Ye Qiao got up from her nap, she received a call from the reception, asking her to go to the restaurant that was located on the first floor. While she was there, Du Jun handed over an envelope to her.
“Your brother’s diploma is right there in the envelope.”
His efficiency was truly impressive. He had everything settled and done on her behalf.
“Your brother has some guts, that I must admit. Do you know he went up against and how he got himself into trouble?” Du Jun asked in a serious manner while taking a sip of his coffee.
