Chapter 64 Father Vs. Son
While Zayn\'s \'attack\' ended up as nothing special, Jarick Cerk misunderstood the feint as a means of distraction, thereby allowing the other two Human Spirits and the Mocalw Bear Spirit to initiate a finishing blow.
However, that couldn\'t be further from the truth. The three Spirits were still wreaking havoc in the masses of the ordinary Undeads, while Zayn joined them to do exactly that as well.
But there were more than three Spirits in Zayn\'s small army, to begin with!
Jarick focused only on the things he had seen, not the things that couldn\'t be seen.
Thus, he was taken by surprise when he sensed something approaching him from behind.
It was no sooner that searing hot needles pierced deep into his neck.
Jarick saw black for a moment, he stumbled and nearly fell to the ground when more searing hot needles punctured his hands and kneecaps from behind.
His expression was one of utter surprise as he collapsed on the ground, unable to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground.
Zayn saw the way Jarick twitched and writhed on the ground and he was taken by surprise as well.
He hadn\'t expected Jarick to collapse only after a few fire needles had been fired at him.
It didn\'t really make sense that the Sparrow Spirits could defeat someone with close to two Soulrings so easily.
But Zayn\'s moment of surprise didn\'t last long as he saw Jarick jump back on his feet again.
Fountains of blood gushed down his neck, legs, and arms but he was still alive and acted as if the wounds didn\'t exist, in the first place.
\'Move as much as you want! Tear open your injuries and slowly bleed to death!\' Zayn thought, not really bothered about the high pain tolerance of his opponent.
It was rather advantageous if exploited properly, especially since Jarick was not an Undead.
The Sparrow Spirits scattered in two different directions once again. They didn\'t try to eliminate Jarick and would rather use the perfect timing to inflict more wounds onto the body of their opponent.
Slowly killing Jarick by tiring him out was certainly a better solution than attempting to obliterate him with a single strategic attack.
There were still hundreds of ordinary Undead that had to be eliminated around them, either way.
Even if Zayn and his Spirits wanted to, they wouldn\'t be able to get closer to Jarick right now.
That was also part of the reason why Zayn and his Spirits focused on obliterating the Undead around them while Jarick was getting up from the ground.
The presence around the Blessed had changed drastically, his eyes were red and blood seemed to trickle out of them. Jarick ripped apart his cloak, revealing a jacked body that seemed incomparably different from what Zayn imagined to see.
The clothes underneath the cloak were torn, which made it look almost as if Jarick\'s muscles had outgrown his clothes, ripping them to pieces all of a sudden. Zayn couldn\'t help but yelp in surprise as he fathomed what might have happened.
\'The requirements to activate a Unique Power have been met?\' He wondered though he was not completely certain whether or not his guess was correct. However, the possibility of his guess being correct was highly likely.
The possibility increased even further when Jarick\'s skin burst open due to the flexing muscles that stretched the skin to a degree it had never been pulled before.
Jarick\'s bulging muscles caused chills to run down Zayn\'s spine and a premonition overcame him.
Zayn was getting stronger because he had absorbed the ownerless soul particles of the Soul Wisps of the destroyed Undead, but the enhancement in his strength was evidently not even close to the enhancement Jarick received from the Unique Power that had been unleashed.
He was already severely injured, yet, he was getting even stronger.
Zayn killed the last Undead in his immediate surroundings before goosebumps sprang up on his entire body.
He instinctively crossed his swords with the dull blade of the Saber pushing against his forearm as a monster with the appearance of a human emerged in front of him.
It was Jarick, his entire body covered in blood, and his face distorted into a hideous grimace. He smiled with devilish glee, his mouth widening as much as possible as he slashed at Zayn with the blood-red sword that had emerged in his hand seemingly out of nowhere.
Zayn tried to block the slash but the Blessed pushed against his sword as if a Rhinoceros had charged at them.
He was pushed down to his knees from the sheer physical force that had been applied in the slash, yet, Jarick was far from done. He pushed his left hand against the backside of his sword which caused the double-edged blade to cut deep into his palm.
However, instead of screaming out loud or retracting his hand, Jarick simply looked at his palm curiously. And then, his smile seemed to widen even though that was not possible and his strength increased.
\'What the hell?!?\' Zayn shouted in his mind, unable to comprehend the situation.
He was pushed to the ground, but he somehow managed to prevent the bloody-red sword from digging into him and reaping his life. His face turned red like a tomato, his muscles bulged and the veins in his eyes were about to pop under the tremendous pressure he was put under due to a seemingly simple sword slash.
When Zayn was about to initiate a desperate attempt to escape death, the Agile Human Spirit appeared behind Jarick Cerk.
The Spirit\'s hideous grimace rivaled that of Jarick since it knew that it had to obey and protect Zayn even if that meant it had to kill the father of the being it had been manifested from.
Fragments of memories from Phillip\'s life were vibrant in the Agile Human Spirit\'s mind and it was only due to the unbroken, and forced loyalty that it mercilessly slashed the curved blades of the karambit knuckles deep inside the back of its own father.
Even though Zayn was in a prickly situation, he couldn\'t help but feel a little bit weird at the sight of the father-son duo, and how their lives or afterlife, if that is what being a spirit was in the case of Philip, had changed so much because of his interference.
One was on the verge of death while the other one was a Spirit.
And that feeling…was amazing!
