Chapter 115: How To Make An Appearance

"It is not unheard of participants who wake up in just a few seconds, but they are extremely rare," Mosie commented. "Usually, such participants received very strict mental training, and even so it is not guaranteed to work. Not to mention, this kind of thing only happens in higher-ranked planets, not in a place like this. Still, to think you had no more than a second off.

That might just be a new record."

Linfel then looked at Alvin, seeing his eyes narrowing. He wasn\'t the only one. All the Maguses around seemed to be going through similar processes. "Are they really fine?"

"They are," Mosie calmed down. "Come up to the stage and have a talk with us. It should take a few hours before the first one of them wakes up. Tell us more about your life. I\'m quite curious how you reached your level in this place."

Linfel shook his head, though. "I would rather stay with my friends if you don\'t mind. Even if you said they are fine, I still get worried."

"That\'s fine too," Mosie didn\'t mind, although he was a little disappointed Linfel couldn\'t answer his questions. But then again, the Maguses and Familiars\' pasts don\'t matter in the test. All that matters is ability, and this Familiar called Linfel seemed to be really good.

Linfel approached Alvin and connected to him through their Soul Waves. \'Hum... he is truly completely asleep. I wonder what kind of dream he is having. That guy said the faster you wake up, the stronger your willpower is. Let\'s try to take a look.

Perhaps I can use our connection to see if I can nullify the force that is keeping him unconscious.\'

Usually, Linfel wouldn\'t want to help Alvin. However, Alvin wasn\'t exactly an example of willpower. If Linfel left him like this, he most likely would be one of the very last Maguses to wake. Who knows, he might never wake up again.

Linfel tried to remember that sensation when the gray light entered his core and soul. While he kept his Soul Waves matched with Alvin\'s, he controlled his Magic Energy to create a similar energy. However, it didn\'t work. His Magic Energy always lacked something.

\'Hum... that energy managed to affect our souls, but how?\' Linfel continued to ponder about the issue for the next hour without success.

Meanwhile, in Alvin\'s dream, he was on his father\'s boat as Alvin tried to pull a huge fish from the water. However, even though he used all the strength of the equipment in the boat, it simply wasn\'t enough.

"Alvin, this thing is too strong. We must let it go!" Lucau spoke. He was in the cabin, looking as Alvin worked.

Yet, Alvin felt like he shouldn\'t let it happen for some reason. "Father. This is the biggest fish we ever caught. How can I let it go?"

*Shua!*

The enormous fish then struggled again, pulling the entire boat down into the water for a moment before the boat returned to the surface. Alvin almost fell into the water but managed to hold on. He looked at Lucau, who also held to the boat. "Are you okay?"

Lucau nodded. "Obviously! However, the boat won\'t last for much longer like this. Just let it go, son."

Alvin narrowed his eyes. Considering his personality, he should have let the fish go a long time ago. Yet, his hands simply didn\'t want to relax.

That situation continued for over a an hour, and the boat got more and more damaged. Cracks began to appear on the hull while Lucau did his best to throw the water away. "Alvin! You did enough! Just let it go!"

Little did Alvin know, but if he let the fish go for real, the dream would reset, he would lose his memories of it, and everything would repeat from the start.

Finally, Alvin felt like the situation got too dangerous, and his hands began to tremble. It was then that his father stopped taking the water out of the boat and asked. "Why can\'t you let it go? Why do you insist in following the Path of a Magus?"

"D-Dad?" Alvin was taken aback. The fish struggled even more while those words echoed in Alvin\'s mind.

"Alvin," Lucau continued, "What are you even trying to do? The Ventis Sect? One of the strongest forces in our Galaxy? What could someone like you possibly accomplish in that place?"

"I..." Alvin\'s hands began to let go of the fish. Indeed, he has never been talented to start with. If anything, he was below average. There must be something wrong with his head to think he could take such a test.

Lucau patted his shoulder, nodding with a smile. "That\'s right. Your place is here with me, in Serfen Planet. We can buy another boat, and we will fish together every day. All you need to do is let this fish go, and everything will be okay. Don\'t you want to stay with your father?"

"I... I do... but..." Alvin was almost convinced. However, it was then that time seemed to come to a stop. Out of nowhere, the fishing rod in his hand disappeared, and everything went calm. Right after, a woman appeared on the boat with Alvin.

It was Milia, looking at him with an angry expression. "Are you truly letting me go to the Ventis Sect alone? I thought you were much more than that, Alvin."

Alvin looked at her with a bitter smile. "But you don\'t need me. You never did. You will do fine on your own, I\'m sure of it."

"Yes," Milia nodded, approaching Alvin and putting her hands on his face. "I can definitely go alone and thrive. However, is that what you want? Do you truly want me to go alone? Meet other people? Soar through the skies on my own?

Even though you know you have a chance to be by my side when that moment comes?"

"I..." Alvin was taken aback. "Do you think I have what it takes to be by your side? Me? A nobody who would have never had the chance to talk to you had Linfel never appeared? Do you truly think I\'m such a guy?"

Milia nodded sweetly. "I do. After all, when the Magic Beast was about to kill me back then, who took the initiative to block it? Linfel told me. It was you who acted first. He just connected with you to give you support, but your reaction was faster than anyone else.

Why was that?"

"Because..." Alvin thought about it. "Because I didn\'t want you to get hurt..."

"If I go alone, I might get hurt as well," Milia spoke. "Will you truly stay behind and let that happen?"

"Master!" Out of nowhere, Felia also took form. "You didn\'t leave behind for nothing. Remember, I\'m here to take care of the Old Master."

"Felia..." Alvin felt her determination.

"Alvin," Milia spoke again. "I need you."

Alvin\'s expression changed, and he gritted his teeth. Time started to move again, and the fishing rod in Alvin\'s hand returned, becoming even harder to hold. Yet, Alvin\'s expression showed determination. His grip stabilized, and he circulated his Magic Energy to assist. "Dad, I do find the idea of fishing with you... quite boring, to be honest.

Besides, there is someone I just can\'t let go either!"

Lucau was taken aback. "Is this person more important than me?"

"No," Alvin shook his head. "However, she does occupy a similar space in my heart. I will come back to visit, don\'t worry."

Alvin then focused on the fishing rod and the struggling fish. "For now, let me hold to my objectives for a while longer. I\'ll make sure you won\'t regret letting go of me."

The fish appeared on the surface! Alvin\'s Magic Energy burst out as he gave it one last pull! The fish jumped out of the water, and Alvin moved the fishing rod, pulling it in his direction. Finally, the fish fell into his hands... or so it was supposed to.

*Boom!*

Out of nowhere, an explosion of rainbow colors happened between Alvin and his fish. Right after, a floating ball of energy appeared. The explosion broke Alvin\'s fishing rod, and the fish escaped. Only Alvin\'s tears remained.

"Oh! It seems like it worked. Hey, Alvin, how are you doing?" Said the floating ball of energy. Linfel... truly knows when to make an appearance.
